BoXXer 2010 These forks are currently being used by the top racers on the circuit – Sam Hill, Greg Minnaar, Steve Peat and Nathan Rennie. Benefiting from a new 35mm chassis introduced in 2009, the forks have next to no flex and let you ride hard with confidence. The forks come in 3 flavours – the coil sprung Race and Team models, and the air sprung World cup, all of which use the Maxle Lite DH system. The Race fork weighs just under 3kg, has Motion Control IS damping, and is coil sprung. The Team fork receives the upgraded Mission Control DH damper, and DropStop technology to ramp up travel at the end of the stroke. Its weight remains the same as the Race. The World cup is the lightest of the three, weighing around 2.7kg. The Mission Control damper is shared with the Team, but the fork uses a Solo Air spring instead of a coil, allowing the lower weight. Although the World Cup is the lightest of the 3 because it has an air spring, it's like a racing thoroughbred and needs regular maintenance to keep in tiptop condition.

We spoke to Steve about his, and he told us "What I like about the new one is that it's more rigid and goes where I point it! The fork combined with the new back-end on the V10 gives better contact with the ground so I'm more in control."

They can be adjusted on-the-fly from 95mm to 140mm of travel, meaning you really do have the choice to go wherever you want. The coil-sprung 454 feels plush and dependable, and also uses the Maxle Lite system to give great steering precision. Reba Team 2010 A reliable, lightweight and efficient fork, the Reba Team is perfect for long climbs and fast descents. The Black Box motion control gives the fork dual-flow damping, allowing greater control over both big and small hits. The fork weighs in at around 1.6kg, so it’s very light, and 32mm stanchions combined with a forged aluminium crown make it a stiff platform.

Lyrik 2010 The 2010 Lyrik is a fantastic all-rounder. While the 170mm Coil fork gives freeriding capabilities, the U-Turn version allows adjustable travel from 115 to 160mm, meaning you can pedal up the mountain and blast back down. In fact, two of the technicians here are riding Lyriks at the moment – Paul’s an all-mountain sort of rider, using them for just about everything. Oscar’s more geared towards jumping, and finds they offer great comfort and versatility. The fork’s not too heavy either, coming in at the small end of 2kg. The Mission Control dampers have been revised for this year, offering better small bump compliance and upgraded rebound damping. The also fork uses 35mm stanchions and the Maxle Lite system to offer fantastic stiffness and a secure feeling.
