What is done during a TF Tuned Fox Forx Service?

Before any service work is carried out, the fork is wiped clean & we check its operation. It's then stripped & all oil seals/o-rings are removed prior to cleaning the individual parts in a chemical bath. Once cleaned & dried the next step is to check the bushings for any play. If we find any we will try to refit/resize the bushings to maximize the performance of the chassis but if this fails we will contact you to get authorisation to fit new bushings. With bushings fitted/sized we then pop new wiper seals in position. Then we assemble everything in accordance with the factory/TFT procedures, put oil in the important places, grease any spring assemblies & make her feel lush. Next we check all the adjusters do what they're meant to do & set it up to match your weight & riding style (on coil-sprung forks this may require another spring so we would contact you to get authorisation before we fit). Then we pop a small TF Tuned sticker on it, invoice & complete the Service Record, box it up & send it back.

My Forx clunks over small bumps which feels like a loose headset - what's up?

This is a common characteristic caused by a combination of the cartridge base valve hysteresis & bushing play. The bushing play is addressed by Fox as being down to the 'hydrodynamic lubrication' & the allowable clearance between the upper tubes & the bushings. We can often improve it considerably by bushing refitting/resizing to maximize the performance of the chassis. Add a little rework of the base valve & the jobs a good'n.

How will the PUSH Forx Platform Damping improve the ride?

  1. Minimise Rider Input: Rider input, ie. pedal-induced movement, weight transfer, sit/stand, etc. is minimised by using the lock-out lever. With the lever in the "On" position, all the oil flow on compression is forced through the lower valve in the cartridge. (The lower valve is 'PUSH-ed' to your weight and style.) Now you can fine-tune the level of platform by turning the Threshold Adjuster at the bottom of the fork leg. This allows you, the rider, to determine how little or great the effect is.
  2. Have it how you like: Don't want a "Platform" or "Threshold" feel for the next section of trail? No problem, just flip the lock-out lever to the "Off" position and the feature is gone completely.
  3. Prevents brake dive: With the lock-out lever in the "On" position, all the oil has to go through the lower valve. In the "Off" position, the valve located in the top cap of the fork shares the metering of oil flow with the base valve. By choosing any position between "On" or "Off" you can select the amount of low-speed compression you have. In addition, on RLC forks we 'PUSH' the compression adjuster valve to give a greater range of adjustment, giving even better control over the level of fork dive or wallow.
  4. Improved Rebound:- A much overlooked feature. With '02-'04 forks a new rebound piston is fitted, and with '05 forks, the stock one is machined. Both are designed to increase flow during higher velocities. This increases the low-speed rebound damping rate, which controls excessive movement and allows the fork to respond more quickly in high-speed situations. The next aspect of the rebound tuning involves different shim configurations, and is based on spring rate/air pressure used and the specific rider weight and style. Of course, the fine tuning is put in the hands of you, the rider, with the red Rebound Adjuster.
  5. No more spiking: In our experience, '02-'04 Forx suffer from high-speed spiking (when you hit a medium to large square-edged bump, the fork can't compress quickly enough causing the shock to be transmitted to the handlebars or the wheel to skit off a root sideways!). The PUSH kit completely eliminates this giving you full control over those slick, rooted high-speed sections of the trail.
Note: The Forx will no longer lock out completely.

Why doesn't my fork lock out completely?

There can be a number of reasons. If the rebound is adjusted to minimum (fastest), there can be a lack of oil in the rebound cartridge. To fix this, wind the dial fully clockwise to its stop then back 3-5 clicks, then cycle the fork up and down a few times to help fill the cartridge with oil. Then try the lockout again.

Another reason can be the Threshold Adjuster (if fitted) being incorrectly set on RLT/RLCs. Adjusted fully anti-clockwise is minimum, and fully clockwise is maximum. You need it on maximum for the hardest lock-out.

We find that some forks just don’t lock-out very well, because of nuances in manufacture. Lastly, don’t forget that no fork is designed to lock-out completely solidly because if you hit a bump it must be able to respond a little, and not launch you over the top.

Why does my Fox Van 36 (or Fox 40) knock in compression?

This is the spring rod rubbing on the spring. We modify this during a service to reduce the knock.

The damping's become inconsistent in my Fox 36/40. What's happened?

The most likely explanation is that the bladder has collapsed. Eventually, it will top-out all the time and can cause the cartridge to fail. This is a common occurrence and we always replace the bladder as part of a service.

Why has my TALAS fork become harsh?

This is often due to scratches inside the air tube or on the TALAS shaft. This allows the negative air to escape providing no balance to the positive pressure. The only cure is to replace the damaged part(s)

Why does my '04-'06 TALAS knock over small bumps or when I push on it?

This is due to play in the travel helix and unfortunately can't be rectified.
