What's done during 'TF Tuning' of '06-'08 Boxxer Team & World Cup
Working with TF Tuned-sponsored riders, we have come up with a number of options to optimize the function of the high-speed compression shim stack. These modifications remove the high-speed spiking whilst maintaining good low to mid-speed compression to resist brake dive. We also have a little trick on the rebound to remove the annoying 'knock' some forks experience as they go from compression to rebound. In addition we address the 'self-adjusting rebound' experienced on many forks. Whilst working on the fork we change all the oils to fully-synthetic racing fluids and size the bushings (if necessary) to make the fork smoother over small bumps and to maximize the performance of the chassis.

Why can't you TF Tune my '06-'08 Boxxer Race?
The difference between the Boxxer Race and the other '06-'08 Boxxer models is that it doesn't have an adjustable flood gate or a high-speed compression shim stack. On the other models, we can TF Tune these to remove high-speed spiking and resist brake dive. If you wanted these modifications, an option would be to upgrade your Race to Team internals. However, if you just get your Boxxer Race serviced by us we can still make several improvements as part of the job. We can remove the rebound 'knock' as it shuttles between compression and rebound, address the 'self-adjusting rebound' experienced on many forks, change all the oils to fully-synthetic racing fluids and size the bushings (if necessary) to make the fork smoother on small bumps and maximize the performance of the chassis.

Can I fit Motion Control in pre '06 Boxxers?
You can add Motion Control damping to any Boxxer from '03 & dump all the plastic! (No more rebound failures) If you have an '03 or '04 fork, you will need to buy a set of newer lower legs (currently £190 or £195, depending on colour). When we fit the new TF Tuned Motion Control we will also change all the oils to fully synthetic racing fluids, fit the appropriate spring for your weight/style, size the bushings to maximize the performance of the chassis & fit new seals to keep it running sweet all season long. All this for £250 (excluding lowers if required on pre '05 forks)

What's done during 'TF Tuning' of '04 & '05 Boxxers
'04 and '05 Boxxers suffer from a lack of low-speed rebound damping in the top 2-3" of the stroke. This can cause the front wheel to wash-out when exiting turns. The mod we do to the Black Box base valve cures this. Add racing oils to right levels and spring(s) to suit your weight and you're ready for the podium. Just ask The Atherton's ... they ran stock TF Tuned Boxxers from 2002-2005.

Why does my '05-'08 Boxxer feel harsh over small bumps?
The new 8" lower leg assembly has much longer lower bushings which, if not fitted correctly, can cause a high degree of stiction. This leads to what can only be described as a harsh & sticky small bump ride. To resolve this issue we need to remove the seals (we have to replace the oil seal as it's not possible to remove it without damaging it), remove the upper bushings, reworking/resizing the lower bushing before refitting the upper bushings.

What is '03 Boxxer Race/Team/WC 'TF Tuning'?
RockShox engineers worked hard to improve the rebound damping on '03 Boxxer forks. This they did, but unfortunately they created another problem - high-speed compression spiking & inconsistent rebound. Spiking is when you hit a medium to large square-edge bump and the fork cannot compress quickly enough causing the shock to be transmitted to the handlebars. Add to this a very ratchety feel & the fact that the fork is often over sprung (stock springs are suitable for 100kg/15 stone + rider) you can see that there's room for improvement. The mod we do (TF Tuned Black Box base valve, glide ring & non suck-up bottom-out pads + more tricks on Team & WC forks) cures all the above & if you choose to have the right springs fitted you have a fork that will rail those rooty/rock garden sections. Whilst working Race forks, we can also increase the travel from 6" to 7" for free.

What is Boxxer 'TF Tuning' on '98-'02 Forks?
TF tuning is a modification to the compression damping that increases low to mid speed compression without causing high speed spiking. It also increases the rebound damping throughout the range which is its main benefit. It's the same mod we performed on the stock Boxxer that top riders like Steve Peat rode all through the '01 & '02 seasons.

What are the right springs for my '00-'05 Boxxer?
The table below is a good starting point on all 7" and 8" Boxxer forks with steel or titanium springs but you may prefer one rate harder or softer. Note: When the going is hard & fast (like Fort Bill) you normally run higher fork spring rates. Remember, the most important factor to good suspension set-up is the correct spring rate.

Can I fit Titanium springs in 7" Boxxers & how much weight will I save?
You can fit the '05 8" Titanium springs to all models of 7" Boxxers with the aid of a new spacer kit & machining of the compression side spring perch (the 8" springs are 30mm longer & 1-2mm less internal diameter than 7"). If you order a set of Ti springs for your 7" Boxxer we will supply the spacer kit & machine your damper for free. Total weight saving is around 200 grams depending on which spring rate you are running.

Will TF Tuning affect my ability to service my own fork?
No, in fact when you get your Boxxer back from us you will find recommendations about oil quantities & specs on the back of the invoice, so that should you want to service your fork you can get it back to how we delivered it. Boxxer's work best if the oil is changed every 20-30 hours & this is a relatively easy job.
